Oil, Gas and Converted Aga Cookers Have Been Discontinued

The product you were looking for is no longer sold by Range Exchange. AGA stopped manufacturing oil and gas-fired cookers over a decade ago, and aftermarket conversions like ElectricKit and eControl are not genuine Aga products. We only specialise exclusively in genuine, factory-built electric Aga cookers, fully reconditioned and guaranteed.

For many years, oil-fired and gas-fired Aga cookers were a familiar sight in country kitchens across the UK, prized for their constant background warmth and traditional cast-iron cooking. However, AGA stopped manufacturing new oil and gas-fired cookers around a decade ago, shifting production entirely to genuine electric models. This now means no more costly flue installation, complex site preparation, or the need for a plinth.

In more recent years, third-party companies have offered aftermarket conversion kits, such as ElectricKit and eControl, which take an older oil or gas Aga and retrofit it with electric components. While these conversions can look appealing on price, they are not manufactured or endorsed by AGA, are typically built on-site rather than delivered as a finished appliance, and rely on non-AGA parts and independent installers for ongoing servicing and support.

Combined with the rising and unpredictable cost of heating oil and gas, the twice-yearly servicing many of these older systems require, and the fact that spare parts for discontinued models are becoming harder to source, it’s easy to see why so many homeowners are now moving away from oil, gas and converted Aga cookers altogether.

As a result, Range Exchange no longer sources, reconditions or sells oil-fired, gas-fired, ElectricKit or eControl cookers, and instead specialises exclusively in genuine, factory-built electric Aga models, which offer lower and more predictable running costs, full programmable control, and the reliability of a cooker engineered by Aga for electric use from day one.

Why We No Longer Sell These Models

Three reasons homeowners are moving away from oil, gas and converted Aga cookers.

01

No Longer Manufactured

AGA stopped producing new oil and gas-fired cookers around a decade ago. ElectricKit and eControl are third-party aftermarket conversions, not genuine Aga products, so none of these are available as new appliances today.

02

Expensive and Unpredictable to Run

Traditional oil and gas Agas are designed to stay on 24/7, so running costs are constantly exposed to volatile fuel prices. Modern electric Agas offer significantly lower, more predictable running costs, owing to their more advanced controls.

03

Reliability and Servicing Concerns

Oil and gas models need specialist OFTEC or Gas Safe engineers and servicing every 6-12 months. Converted ElectricKit and eControl cookers are built onsite from aftermarket parts, so reliability and long-term parts support can vary considerably.

Two Ways An Electric Aga Can Work

Not every electric Aga cooker works the same way. Dual Control, R7/Classic, and R3 models still use Aga's original heat storage principle. Total Control, eR3/Compact and eR7/Signature and City 60/Mini models take a different approach, giving every oven and hotplate independent control.

Heat Storage Principle Every oven controlled independently

These models keep Aga's classic heat storage design, just powered by electricity instead of oil or gas. A single heat source radiates stored heat around the cast iron body of the cooker, meaning the ovens warm up simultaneously whilst also providing ambient warmth for the kitchen. It's the closest experience to a traditional Aga cooker, with the same steady, background heat with the added flexibilty of separately controlled hotplates and ECO mode for warmer months.

These models step away from the single shared heat source. Every oven and hotplate is heated and controlled independently, so you can switch cooking zones on only when you need them. Quick heat up times, programmable timers and slumber modes put running costs and heat output entirely in your hands.
