How to Make Apple Crumble in an AGA
Â
1. Prepare the apples
Peel the Bramley apples and cut them into thick slices.
Place the prepared apples into a bowl and toss with the caster sugar and cinnamon until evenly coated.
Transfer the apples to your ovenproof dish and spread them out into an even layer.
2. Make the crumble topping
Place the flour into a large mixing bowl.
Add the butter and rub it into the flour using your fingertips until the mixture has a breadcrumb-like texture.
Stir through the demerara sugar.
3. Assemble your apple crumble
Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the prepared apples. There’s no need to press the topping down; keeping it relatively loose helps create that lovely crumbly texture.
4. Cook in the AGA
Place the crumble on the second set of runners in the Roasting Oven and cook for approximately 25–30 minutes.
Then transfer it to the top of the Simmering Oven for approximately 40 minutes, or until the apples are beautifully soft and the crumble topping is cooked through.
5. Serve
Serve your AGA apple crumble warm with custard, pouring cream or ice cream.
